About

Music for Our Modern Times

Thelonious Monk often respelled his name backwards and inverted the “M” spelling “Know”. As we enter into a new era in jazz as well as all music, appreciation of the past is as essential as the future and the present. Knew basks in the past, present, and future by the creation of unique sonorities, textures, and pulses augmented by the instrumentation of guitar, saxophone, double bass, drums, and of course the intertwining dynamics of improvisation. With original compositions by guitarist Tristan Norton and drummer Kevin Coleman that dillute both the preconceptions and parameters of jazz, Knew seeks to touch on a wide range of aesthetic varieties often drawing upon the traditions of Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Roy Ayers, as well as styles pertaining to funk, afro-beat, hiphop, R&B, and pop.
